For 16 minutes last Thursday, a classroom full of St. Helena Elementary School kids did what some parents might find inconceivable: They listened and didn’t make a sound. The 2024 Manetti Shrem Opera Prizewinners have been announced, revealing soprano Pretty Yende and tenor Jonathan Tetelman as the 2024 recipients. San Francisco society came out to celebrate Gordon Getty on March 7 at Festival Napa Valley’s Angels of the Arts Gala. Set against the gilded walls of the Green Room in the War Memorial Veterans Building, Mayor London Breed and Chief of Protocol Maryam Muduroglu kicked off the night, announcing that City Hall had been lit up in Getty’s favorite colors in honor of the festivities.

Gordon Getty, the San Francisco businessman and award-winning classical-music composer, will soon have a playlist on Apple Music, alongside masters such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Amadeus Mozart. Apple Music will roll out the playlist later this year in coordination with Getty’s 91st birthday in December.
Nonagenarian Gordon Getty hails from one of America’s most storied families. The fourth son of J. Paul Getty, founder of Getty Oil, Getty was born in Los Angeles and raised in San Francisco. Over the years, Getty’s celebrated compositions have been performed around the world, including his hometown. Next month, Getty will be honored by Festival Napa Valley with the Angels of the Arts Award, at the War Memorial & Performing Arts Center.
Grammy-winning musician Lionel Richie is slated to make his way to Wine Country this summer to usher in Festival Napa Valley’s summer season. The organization announced the global superstar will be performing at its annual charity event, the Arts for All Gala, on July 14.
