Jazz @ the Castello

Cuban-born jazz trumpeter and composer Arturo Sandoval, a 10-time Grammy Award-winner who plays with an unbeatable mix of fire, finesse, and feeling, wowed festival-goers a few years back. He returns this summer with his blazing sextet for an unforgettable evening of jazz at Castello di Amorosa.

Awarded the Medal of Freedom in 2013 by President Obama, Sandoval, who’s equally fluent in jazz, classical and Cuban idioms, was a protégé of the late, great bebop trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. Heard on recordings by artists as diverse as Gillespie, Sinatra, and Alicia Keys, Sandoval soars when he’s performing live with his band.

Rising above the hills in the Napa Valley is Castello di Amorosa, which translates to the “castle of love” in Italian.  Castello di Amorosa is an authentically-styled, thirteenth century Tuscan castle winery replete with high walls, five defensive towers, and over 30 acres of estate vineyards.  It was built over a 14-year period by Dario Sattui, a fourth generation winemaker and owner of V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, California.
